Bay of Plenty based Bespoke Garden Designs brings together a unique blend of knowledge, experience, creativity and passion, and focuses on the potential of each individual site and the vision of each client to deliver garden design excellence through a small team of artisans.
The design process is considered to be both creative and technical. Creative in that the designs come from within an artist and a plantsman gardener with a lifetime of experience to draw on and an artisan draftswoman illustrator who creates personalised plans and visual representations by hand. Technical in that the most comprehensive knowledge of site, soil, plants and husbandry are applied in a practical manner to deliver outdoor spaces that are simply elegant, effortlessly useable and a delight to live in and enjoy.
About The Artisan Gardener
Tony is both a gardener and an artist, a comfortable combination which gently demands expression in all of his work and excellence in what is designed, created, tended and cared for. He has the benefit of a heritage and a lifetime of gardening knowledge and experience to draw on as he brings beautiful, living spaces into being. He is also an artist who paints and a sculptor who is inventive, sometimes whimsical, sometimes classical in the design and making of his outdoor installations. He is a hands-on workman who enjoys bringing a landscape or garden to life, in a measured and deliberate way. He is also a passionate educator.
Our Services
Garden Design
Creating a bespoke garden design that reflects who you are and the elegance, beauty and functionality you have imagined begins with our creative garden designer visiting, looking and listening. We want to share your vision, and with you draw on our knowledge, expertise and experience to produce and present a plan that we can refine and work from.
Garden Development
Bringing your vision and our agreed plan to fruition usually requires site work such as contouring, construction, paving, lawns, soil husbandry and planting. For the adventurous a plan might include water features, sculptural installations, and lighting. We take a hands on approach to development work and provide project management when using contractors.
Garden Management
Enjoying a garden that looks good and provides a pleasing outdoor living space can be daunting and time consuming. We are very happy to continue our investment in your new garden by continuing to love it and care for it so that it looks its best throughout the seasons and for all special occasions.
Outdoor Installations
We believe that gardens and outdoor spaces are perfect places to showcase natural wonders and beauty along with those created by human hands. Bespoke Garden Designs provides a consultation and design service for those wishing to include or add an outdoor art installation to their garden or outdoor living space. We specialise in designing, creating or procuring, and installing each bespoke piece including services such as water and electricity.
The Artisan Gardener
An artisan is a craftsman or craftswoman whose primary focus is on the care taken using specialist knowledge and traditional skills to achieve exception quality. Tony, our artisan gardener is a plantsman and a gardener with rare insight, understanding, knowledge and skill. His focus is on developing, managing, and tending special outdoor spaces while paying attention to detail, and with his hands in the soil and among the leaves and blooms. His catchphrase is constancy, and his desire is to love and care for your garden as if it were his own, so that you can enjoy it and share it without being overwhelmed by the time and effort nurturing a garden requires.

Once we are talking then we will usually suggest that an onsite meeting is the best ‘next step’.
